Acupuncture, along with cupping, guasha and moxibustion therapy is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine that originated in china over 5000 years ago and have been used for centuries. It is based on the understanding that all living beings have a vital energy called Qi (pronounced chi) that circulates throughout the entire body in a conceptual network of pathways or energy lines known as meridians. Each meridian is associated with an organ system. When Qi flows smoothly and evenly the body maintains health. When the balance or flow of Qi is disrupted, deficient or obstructed it can compromise a person’s health causing pain or dis-ease.
- Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-fine needles at specific anatomical points (acupuncture points) along energy pathways (meridians) on the skin. Acupuncture is performed using sterile, disposable needles that are extremely fine. They do not cut the skin like hypodermic needles and therefore cause minimal to no discomfort.
- Modern scientific approaches prove that needles inserted at acupuncture points releases endorphins –the body’s natural pain relieving neurohormones that results in increased energy, improved mood, reduced pain and improved function in affected areas of the body. The goal of acupuncture is to correct imbalances in the flow of Qi and restore health through stimulation. It’s an ancient, safe and effective method of enhancing the body’s self healing energy.
Acupressure is a similar therapy to acupuncture that don’s use needles. Acupressure technique involves the application of pressure on acupuncture points using thumbs or fingers. Electrical or laser stimulation may also be used.
Cupping involves placing cups on the skin to create suction to facilitate the flow of “qi” in the body and increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. When the hot cup is placed on your skin, the air inside the cup cools and creates a vacuum that draws the skin and muscle upward into the cup. Your skin may turn red as the blood vessels respond to the change in pressure. Cupping has been used to treat a wide variety of conditions and particularly effective at easing conditions that create muscle tension, aches and pains. Cupping applied at acupressure points are effective at treating other conditions commonly treated with acupressure. It also improves overall blood flow and promote cell repair.
Gua sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. Gua sha is generally performed on a person’s back, neck, arms, and legs using mild pressure, gently scraping your skin in a downward motion with short or long strokes to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue, which increases blood flow. Gua sha is intended to address stagnant Qi energy in the body by rubbing the skin’s surface to break up the stagnation therefore reducing inflammation and to promote healing.
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called “moxa” are burned on or very near the surface of the skin to facilitate healing. Moxa can be performed over specific acupuncture points in the body or other areas needed to promote the smooth flow of Qi. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body producing a unique form of very penetrating heat along the meridian pathways to dispel certain pathogenic influences.
The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health.

BodyTalk is a state-of-the-art approach to integrative mind/body medicine by combining Western medicine’s scientifically supported research in fields such as neuroscience, epigenetics, and psychoneuroimmunology along with a large number of highly recognized ancient and modern healing methods and principles of knowledge, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, yoga and meditation philosophies, Chiropractic, consciousness studies and Energy Psychology.
BodyTalk sessions are easy, safe and comfortable; they are done with the client fully clothed; there is no need for disrobing. A BodyTalk session usually lasts between 15 and 45 minutes. The length of a session is not indicative of the quality of the session or the results that occur; as even the simplest sessions can be quite profound. The bodymind knows just how many changes and corrections it is ready to initiate in any given session. The BodyTalk techniques provide insights to the areas of your body that need attention. What might seem like an obvious problem to you is not necessarily the one your body wants to address first. This is the beauty of BodyTalk. It respects the body’s own needs and determines your body’s priorities for healing. Then with the use of a variety of non-invasive techniques, the session refocus your body’s natural healing response to establish better communication within the body.
Every single cell, atom, and system is in constant communication with every other cell, atom and system within the bodymind complex at all times. This includes communication through the nervous system, as well as the other subtle energy circuits of the body – such as the meridians and the electromagnetic frequencies that are produced by the body through its functioning. Stress we experience in our daily life can cause these circuits to become compromised, weakening or disrupting the communication between the cells and systems.
BodyTalk helps to re-establish these energetic circuits and efficient communication in a quick and effective way, which then allows the body to very quickly recover and catch up in the healing process. This is witnessed in how quickly symptoms disappear and function returns, often within just one or two BodyTalk sessions.
Just as the body heals a wound with a particular sequence of bio-chemical, physical and energetic responses, the body addresses all healing in a certain order. This concept is vital in the BodyTalk balancing process to encourage the body’s ability to heal itself by the fastest means possible.
BodyTalk is based on the principle that the body is capable of healing itself at all levels. This automatic, self-guided healing process is part of the body’s inborn intelligence, or the “innate wisdom” of the body, as we call it in BodyTalk. The innate wisdom guides the overall functioning of the bodymind complex, synchronizes all the activities as well as maintains balance, or homeostasis, within the bodymind complex.
The body can be addressed in many different ways. One effective approach taken in The BodyTalk System is to understand the functions of the body according to the discoveries of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Bioenergetic Psychology. These systems developed an understanding of the relationships of physical wellbeing and psychological wellbeing.
Considering the whole-story of the body is extremely important to the healing process. By doing this, The BodyTalk System is providing a truly whole-istic approach to the treatment of dis-ease. This understanding, along with the effective BodyTalk techniques is why The BodyTalk System is such an effective Healthcare system.
